gasp! she blogs! 

big weekend coming up. heading over to leavenworth, aka mini bavaria, over in east WA for their annual oktoberfest celebration. we got accommodations and a team shirt too. this weekend isn't only about gorging on bratwurst and tanking steins o' bier, my friends. it's training for the half marathon the following weekend. i'll be running a leg in the leavenworth marathon relay for my boot camp friend's team (~4.5 miles) AND of course...carbo-loading! all this brings back memories of last year's oktoberfest in munchen...le sigh. we *definitely* have to go back one day, so corn, you better start learning to enjoy bier ;). prost mofos!

How I'm Feeling

I've found that Calvin and Hobbes seem to apply to every situation... best comic strip ever! Think a clear plastic binder will help? I'm giving the dissertation to my committee members tomorrow, I feel like I've killed a lot of trees lately.

Lazy Saturday

Just hung around the house and watched football with the cats. Then had a great dinner of pan-seared asian sea bass over a bed of mushroom risotto with a spinach salad. Finished off with Italian red wine and learning how to play Rummy. Definitely needed a relaxing Saturday... 2 more weeks...

Friday night

So B called for drinks at Horse and Hound Gastropub, which then turned into dinner at Mas - mmm bread, olive oil and wine. Wore this because I've been stuck in the house all day and just wanted to wear something different.

This is what happens when you are too tired and fall asleep watching TV (if you're the type to balance the remote on your head). A couple moments later when you're asleep, you lose your grip on the remote and it falls, while your hand falls and you hit yourself in the head. Then your girlfriend laughs at you.

So I'm really bad at taking pictures of myself using a webcam. Maybe I need to think about investing in a real digital camera if I'm going to continue trying to take pictures of myself. Anyway, here's my new obsession: over the knee socks. Comfortable, warm-ish and you get some strange looks when you walk around in a small town. Apparently I'm ready for fall.

In other news, the dissertation has been turned in to the first reader. Only 3 more weeks... the countdown begins...

Don't Fear the Reaper

Yes, it is currently 1:20 a.m. and Rock Band is in full effect... much to the annoyance of the cats I'm sure. (And everyone is a bit tipsy, D has been claiming every song is impossible as they progress) Miss you san san!


Incidentally, p-chan broke out last night. So the night turned into running around in the dark searching for the cat and hoping we didn't run into the mama bear and her cubs. An hour into the search, p-chan was found just sitting innocently on the neighbor's porch like nothing was wrong. I'm pretty sure she had an encounter with a male cat while she was at it. She hasn't been herself since. I'm just glad she's back, I was having a hard time dealing with the concept of never seeing her again.

Breakfast of Champions

Nothing like a big cup of Kona coffee in your favorite mug first thing in the morning... after driving your boyfriend to work in an early morning thunderstorm. Hopefully the coffee kicks in soon and I manage to do something productive today, despite wanting to just curl up in a little ball and listen to the pitter patter of raindrops on the skylight.

konbanwa townspeople! after 2 unsuccessful UPS deliveries, my shoes finally came in today! don't these snazzy babies make you wanna dance? if this fall-like summer weather allows, i just might wear these and get some dancing in at bumbershoot on sunday. i really don't mind the cool temperatures and the rain, but the drab sunlessness is starting to get to me. can't get one without the other i suppose, but hey, it all makes for some great chazuke-munching days :). thanks to corn for helping me pick out these kicks. can't wait for her to see them in person!

Hello?

So after lurking around on the internet and being fascinated with random blogs, I've finally convinced myself it would be fun to try this whole blogging thing out. Luckily, I have friends who are willing to experiment with me. We'll see how it goes... I'm thinking random spots of daily life, food, fun and fashion? In the meantime, here's Waffles trying out a new toy.
